Please join NYCIGF@Baruch for a fireside chat with Elizabeth Stark, CEO and Co-Founder of Lightning Labs and Zicklin Adjunct Professor Charles Hwang. Lightning Labs develops software that powers the Lightning Network – a payment protocol that operates on bitcoin. Elizabeth and Charles will discuss how Lightning Labs’ open source, secure, and scalable Lightning systems enable users to send and receive money more efficiently than ever before. They will also discuss Lightning Labs’ goal of bridging the world of open-source software and the next-generation of bitcoin financial software.
After the moderated discussion, we will open the virtual floor to questions from the audience.
About the Speakers:
Elizabeth Stark is CEO and Co-Founder of Lightning Labs, where she is building the future of internet money with fast, scalable bitcoin transactions. Elizabeth is a huge fan of open source, decentralized protocols, and taught at Stanford and Yale where her students studied peer-to-peer technology, privacy, open source software, and memes. She has been an active contributor to the bitcoin community, an advisor to startups in areas ranging from cryptocurrency to decentralized technology to AI, and is a fellow at Coin Center. She holds a JD from Harvard and is an avid listener of electronic music.
Charles Hwang (MS ’15) is the Managing Member and Chief Investment Officer of Lightning Capital. Before founding the hedge fund, Mr. Hwang was a valuation consultant and a forensic accountant at Ernst & Young LLP. Prior to that, he has worked as a Senior Equity Trader starting in May 2000. He is also an Adjunct at Baruch College teaching a course on blockchain and cryptoassets. Mr. Hwang received his Master’s of Accountancy degree from the Baruch College and his B.S. in Economics from the University of Rochester. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst Charterholder (CFA) and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
